Harambee Starlets Qualify For 2026 Women's Africa Cup Of Nations

Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have officially booked their place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), marking a triumphant return to the continental stage after years of determination and rebuilding. The Starlets secured qualification following a hard fought aggregate victory over Cameroon, clinching a historic result that thrilled fans at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium. The decisive match ended 1–1, with Kenya advancing on away goals after a resilient performance in Yaoundé the previous week.
Under the guidance of coach Benson Omalla, the team showed remarkable composure and tactical discipline, relying on a blend of young emerging talents and experienced core players. Captain Corazon Aquino led by example in midfield, while forward Jentrix Shikangwa continued her impressive scoring form throughout the qualifiers. “This qualification means everything to us and to Kenyan football,” said Aquino after the final whistle. “We have worked tirelessly to be here, and we are ready to represent our country with pride on the African stage.”
The qualification marks a major milestone for women’s football in Kenya, which has seen renewed investment and grassroots development in recent years. The Starlets last featured at WAFCON in 2016 and their return underscores the progress made in strengthening the women’s game. The 2026 WAFCON, set to be hosted in Morocco, will feature the continent’s top 12 teams battling for continental glory and potential qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
